Sunday the 14 th of February is Valentine’s Day – a day dedicated to recognising and rewarding the ongoing love and affection of our partners. It’s a day to make our loved ones feel special and appreciated, and there’s no better way to communicate those sentiments than with flowers.

And of course the most common flower gifted on Valentine’s Day is the rose. The tradition of giving roses on Valentine’s Day began in the mid 19 th century, and is still going strong today. In fact, these days you have to order roses from your florist well in advance if you’re going to want to have some to gift this Valentine’s Day.

At Flower Shop Florist we’ll have a large supply of roses, and other flowers, for this special occasion. You can pop into the shop at any time to see our range, plan your bouquet and discuss your order.

We can also deliver flowers well in advance to anywhere in Wellington. We’ll make sure you have them in time for surprising your “special someone”.

Here are a few ideas for gifting flowers this Valentine’s Day:

  • It’s on a Sunday this year, so it’s unlikely your loved one will need to be at work. Set your alarm a little early so you can be up before she wakes, and prepare a nice breakfast of her favourite food. When you deliver the food, place it on a tray, with a red rose (or a bunch of roses) in a glass of water.
  • If she does need to go out at some point, wait until she’s left the house, and scatter rose petals around to help set a romantic mood.
  • You could even surprise her early, by bringing home a bunch of flowers on Friday after work, or getting them delivered on Saturday. At Flower Shop Florist we offer same day delivery if you order before 4pm that day, so we can deliver the flowers to you no problem!
